Leilani Bin-Juda PSM served as CEO of the Torres Strait Regional Authority until January 2022. She was the first Indigenous woman to have served in this role. She is a proud Torres Strait Islander, with ties to Hammond, Darnley and Murray Islands. Leilani has had a long diplomatic career, that has included postings to Papua New Guinea, Shanghai in China, the Solomon Islands and the Treaty Liaison Office on Thursday Island. Passionate about Indigenous diplomacy, she spearheaded courses on the subject at the Australian National University. In 2019, she was awarded a Public Service Medical for promoting the inclusion of Indigenous heritage in Australia’s cultural and foreign policies. She also received a Churchill Fellowship in 2000 to investigate Indigenous peoples involvement in museum development.
In this podcast, Leilani chats with Serina about her role in mentoring Indigenous women on personal finance, and the importance of saving and investing.
